People froze to death in cars: a powerful hurricane in Ukraine devastated ten regions

Mangled cars were abandoned right on the roads

Ukraine found itself in a snow hell. Ten regions, hundreds of cities and towns are deprived of light. The disaster overturns cars, uproots trees, and deprives Ukrainians of heat and light. At least ten people died, and there were countless casualties. About what is happening now in Square – in the material “MK”.

Bad weather raged in Vinnitsa, Cherkassy, Chernigov, Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkov and other regions of Nezalezhnaya. Strong winds, sleet, rain and snowstorms, and in some places even a real hurricane, which temporarily deprived the country of intercity transport links.

The Odessa region was hit by a hurricane of snow and ice the day before, depriving the city of power supply. 234 settlements were left without electricity. According to the authorities, at least 1,500 cargo trucks were stuck on the roads, and the authorities even brought in armored personnel carriers to clear the roads.

“A snow storm raged all day and all night,” city resident Irina told Moskovsky Komsomolets. – It was real hell. Today, utility workers are clearing away all this grief. There are a lot of cars stuck in the snow, some of which overturned and are still lying in that position, and it is unknown where the owners are. There are a lot of trees that have fallen on the roads and traffic signs have been knocked down. In general, complete chaos.

    — Now the city is partially paralyzed. Schools, kindergartens and other institutions are closed. Many shops are closed, and people are sitting at home. Due to power outages, boiler houses are also not all working, so it is very cold in the apartments. But we must say thank you to the utility workers who worked all night, all morning and will continue to work all day.

The most terrible consequence of this violence of the elements is the death of people. In Ukraine, at least ten people were killed and 23, including two children, were injured. Moreover, half of the deaths occurred in Odessa and the Odessa region, where the disaster raged especially strongly. According to journalists, there were fifteen injured and five dead in the region. Some of them simply froze to death on the roads without receiving help. Thus, in the Primorsky district of the city, rescuers found three icy cars with the corpses of the drivers inside. “Dark gray crossover. Inside are my mother, sister and niece, they have been standing there since the morning, the car is swept up to the hood,” one of the Odessa Telegram channels sent out a cry for help at night. It is not surprising that not everyone was able to survive until the morning in icy cars covered with snow.

“Some people are still waiting for help in their cars, frozen in ice,” Gennady, a resident of the Privoz district, shares on social networks. – Now, of course, it’s warmer outside, but the situation is still very scary. It’s scary to abandon the car, and it’s also dangerous to sit inside. I hope that the residents of the settlements near which these people were brought help them, at least with food and water. Now we need to put aside ideological differences and just help each other.

The disaster also hit the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The wind did not spare even the largest Ukrainian flag in the country near the Motherland statue, tearing the canvas (its size was 16 by 24 meters) into exactly two parts.

“Today there is a very cold wind outside, and Yesterday there was a real blizzard – said Ivan, a resident of the city. – In many apartments there is no light, they are de-energized. We hope that tomorrow the weather will be better and it will be possible to at least dig out the cars in the yard from under the snow, which are covered to the very roof.”
