In the next, fourth generation, the Fiat Panda will become an electric car, it will be based on the budget Smart Car platform of Stellantis Corporation, gasoline versions still in question.
Announcements of new automotive products rarely come from heads of state, but last Sunday it was Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, at a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who announced the imminent start of production of the new Fiat Panda EV at the Stellantis plant in the Serbian city of Kragujevac. This plant was founded in 1955 as a state-owned enterprise for the licensed production of the Fiat 600 small car; Fiat bought it in 2008, but the plant is still 33% owned by the Serbian authorities.
Last year, Stellantis, which owns Fiat, announced it would invest €190 million in revamping its Kragujevac plant to enable the production of electric vehicles. The reconstruction began in the spring of 2022: then the plant stopped producing the unpopular Fiat 500L compact van, and the staff was partially disbanded and partially transferred to other Stellantis enterprises outside Serbia. Aleksandar Vučić, of course, is very interested in the speedy restart of the plant in Kragujevac, but did not give specific dates.
According to Automotive News Europe, the new Fiat Panda EV is expected to enter the market next summer, while the Italian new Serbian assembly will be a relative of the budget electric cross-hatchback Citroen e-C3, which debuted in October this year, the European version of which is produced at the Stellantis plant in Slovakia. city of Trnava. The Citroen e-C3, we recall, is based on the global Smart Car platform, which is a simplified version of the French CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform, on which Stellantis today produces most small-class models for Europe.

The new cross-hatchback Citroen will also have petrol versions, but it is not yet clear whether the new Fiat Panda will have them, because on the one hand the plant in Kragujevac was repurposed for the production of electric trains, and on the other hand, the current third generation Fiat Panda, what with The 2011 model is being produced in Pomigliano, Italy, and according to rumors, will remain on the production line until 2026, and already in 2027, the European Fiat lineup should consist exclusively of electric vehicles. The design of the Fiat Panda EV will presumably be inspired by the 2019 Fiat Centoventi concept (shown in the title photo).

Today, the middle-aged “third” Fiat Panda is one One of the most affordable new cars in Europe, it costs from €14,990 in Germany. According to JATO Dynamics, sales of the Fiat Panda in Europe in the first 10 months of this year amounted to 102,992 units, meaning it is still a very popular model, even if it is obsolete.
Electric Citroen e -C3 now costs 23,300 euros, in 2025 it will have an even cheaper version with a smaller battery for 19,990 euros, that is, in any case, it will be more expensive than the current “hydrocarbon” Fiat Panda. Perhaps, due to production in Serbia, where wages are among the lowest in Europe, the Fiat Panda EV will be cheaper than the Citroen e-C3, but not by much.
We add that the Fiat range also includes a two-seater electric Topolino for 9890 euros, but this is not a full-fledged car, but a quadricycle with all the restrictions associated with this type of vehicle.
