In Zhejiang province, In eastern China, archaeologists have found traces of a rice field that was cultivated 5300-5500 years ago.
Excavations were carried out on a total area of about a thousand square meters. Three roadsides (ridges), nine holes, a ditch for irrigation and drainage, and remains of rice and weeds were found in this area. Scientists also reported a path that could connect a rice field with a nearby settlement.
The finds will provide additional information about the history of rice farming in the east of modern China, archaeologists said.
