MOSCOW, December 10 Charging a smartphone through a power bank in the cold reduces the battery life by several dozen charge cycles, said Natalya Golitsyna, head of the telephony department of the MTS retail network.
«»Despite the presence of a case, it does not save the battery if you charge your smartphone using a power bank outside in sub-zero temperatures. The average battery life is 700–800 full charge cycles. One charge in the cold can shorten service life is up to several dozen cycles, so charge your smartphone in the cold only if absolutely necessary,” said Golitsyna.
According to the expert, smartphones, like any electronics, are susceptible to negative effects in extreme cold or heat. The device's battery may become unusable and quickly lose its properties.
So, in winter, a dangerous temperature for using a smartphone outdoors is considered to be minus 20 degrees, and in summer when it’s hot – over 35 degrees.
«In winter, this primarily concerns devices with metal or glass cases, from which flagship smartphones are usually made. These materials conduct heat well and promote rapid cooling,» Golitsyna noted.
The expert added that it is advisable to protect phones made of glass and metal with leather or silicone cases — they are less vulnerable to cold weather.
