Ms Winfrey, 70, joins the likes . President John F. Kennedy and anti-slavery campaigner Harriet Tubman in a portrait hanging in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The painting was created by Shawn Michael Warren, a Chicago artist who caught Winfrey's attention when he included an image of the talk show host in a mural he painted in the city three years ago.
Winfrey told the crowd that the color purple is “crucial” in her life.
Her role in the 1985 film The Color Purple helped catapult her into film stardom, and she is a producer on the upcoming film version of the musical The Color Purple. .
