MOSCOW, December 13. Journalist and writer, author of the books that formed the basis of the series “Gangster Petersburg,” Andrei Konstantinov died at the age of 61, Fontanka reported.
“For the last year, Andrei Konstantinov has been seriously and incurably ill.” , says the obituary.
The writer died at home in St. Petersburg, the cause of death was not specified.
Fontanka will inform additionally about the date and place of the funeral.
Andrey Konstantinov was born on September 30, 1963 in the village of Privolzhsky, Astrakhan Region. He graduated from the Oriental Faculty of Leningrad State University with a degree in the history of Arab countries. After working for several years as a military translator, he left the army and got a job at the St. Petersburg newspaper Smena, where he created a criminal chronicle department. This is where the series of essays “Gangster Petersburg” began, which brought him fame. Konstantinov wrote more than ten novels, as well as many short stories and essays.
He also founded Fontanka, the Agency for Investigative Journalism and 47news.
