ST. PETERSBURG, December 21 A resident of St. Petersburg, Maxim Yakubov, was sentenced to 19.5 years for the murder of his one-year-old daughter and common-law wife with extreme cruelty, the press service of the city prosecutor's office reports.
““Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, Yakubov was sentenced to 19 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a high-security correctional colony,” the message says.
The court found that in October 2020, in an apartment on Kuznetsova Avenue, during a quarrel, Yakubov beat his partner and, in her presence, abandoned their one-year-old daughter to tiled floor. The child died from his injuries at the scene of the crime. “The defendant convinced the woman not to call law enforcement officers,” the press service reports.
A week later, in order to hide traces of the murder, Yakubov carried the body in a backpack to the South Primorsky Park, where he hid it in a hard-to-reach place.
In February 2021, the defendant, while in the same apartment, strangled his cohabitant and then drowned her in the bathtub. Yakubov kept the body in the apartment for some time and then took it to the same park.
The verdict of the jury unanimously found the defendant guilty.
