An Indian man beat his wife and bit off her nose after not receiving a dowry from her family. News9Live reports this.

A terrible event took place in the village of Maheshpur in the Bareli region of Uttar Pradesh. A girl named Najmi married Nazim that year. The newlyweds had a son, who is now 5 months old. All this time, the man and his relatives harassed the Indian woman, kicked her out of the house and demanded that she give them some property as a dowry.

The Council of Village Elders was able to reconcile the woman with her husband. However, on December 15, Nazim began beating Najmi during another quarrel. When she resisted, the attacker bit off her nose and threatened her with violence.

Najmi is now in the hospital. She wrote a statement against the man and his five relatives. Nazim, his mother Rehana and father Majid Hussain have been detained. An investigation is underway.
