Tuning studio Refined Marques from Dubai presented an interesting and very expensive conversion based on the current Mercedes-AMG G 63 — a shortened 4-wheel drive a door convertible with rear doors that open against the main movement, it will be produced in an edition of 20 copies, each costing 1.2 million euros.
The last stock short-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz G 500 Cabriolet (the white car in the photographs) was released in 2013 — it was a farewell batch of 200 cars, which quickly sold out to car collectors. In 2017, the luxurious Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet debuted, but it was already a long-wheelbase 4-door car, and in addition on the so-called portal axles (with wheel gearboxes) — all 99 copies produced also safely settled in the garages of wealthy lovers of exotic cars. Today, there is no convertible in the factory range of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, but there is a demand for such a modification; the Refined Marques tuning studio, headquartered in Dubai, is ready to satisfy it.

The development of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Cabriolet took specialists hired by Refined Marques a year and a half, the premiere took place last week in Monaco — the first example shown in the photographs was shown there, blue, with a red convertible top and a red and blue leather interior. Among the customers of the remaining 19 copies planned for production, according to the owner of the studio, Ahmed al-Bakri, there is a certain famous top model who has a stock G 500 Cabriolet, but she is not happy with it, because one day, getting out of its back seat, she tore dress and broke the heel.

The main design difference between the converted “Gelika-convertible” and the stock one is the presence of short rear doors, thanks to which any model with a traditional skinny physique can easily climb into the back seat to enjoy sunbathing during the trip, and get out of there upon arrival at the destination. The B-pillars in the convertible from Refined Marques are retained, although in theory they could be abandoned and wide side doors could be made in the spirit of the Mansory Gronos Coupe EVO C coupe based on the same Mercedes-AMG G 63, but probably then Mercedes -AMG G 63 Cabriolet from Refined Marques would cost even more, and there would be problems with the rigidity of the body without a roof. In short, the result may not be ideal in terms of convenience, but it is reliable and in the style of the stock G 500 Cabriolet — the proportions of the two models are absolutely identical.

The Refined Marques folding soft top is fully automatic — you just need to lock it with latches in the closed position and unlock them before folding. The luggage gate is a hinged type, which is more convenient than the drop-down side on the stock G 500 Cabriolet. The interior upholstery has been completely updated. The type, color and materials of decorative inserts depend only on the customer’s imagination.

The technical stuffing is standard: a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine (factory index M177) produces a maximum of 585 hp. and 850 Nm and allows you to ride in a convertible not just with a breeze, but with a hurricane, although it’s unlikely that anyone would want to participate in such an attraction while sitting in the back seat. The standard all-wheel drive system with three locking differentials and a low gear has been retained, and the short wheelbase only improved the geometric cross-country ability.
