The Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the Russian Orthodox Church stood up for the scientist
The State Duma called on the State Duma to apologize and reinstate the director of the Institute of General Genetics, biologist Alexander Kudryavtsev. The scientist who was fired the other day after an unexpected interpretation of Holy Scripture at a theological conference was also supported in the Russian Orthodox Church, calling his dismissal an unethical act on the part of officials.

Let us remind you that Alexander Kudryavtsev was removed from his post on Thursday. Officially, the Ministry of Education and Science explained the reason to the institute’s employees rather vaguely: “to intensify work on the institute’s profile.” In fact, it was clear to everyone that Kudryavtsev caused dissatisfaction with his speech at the theological conference “God — Man — World” last spring. More precisely, it was not this fact itself that was recognized as a violation of certain unwritten rules, but the way in which some thoughts were presented in his report.
According to one of IOGen’s employees, most likely, the reason for Kudryavtsev’s dismissal from the post of leader is his strange interpretation of biblical events with reference to modern times. Kudryavtsev excited the public with extremely shocking data, which, according to him, were taken from the Bible, and rather awkwardly combined them, as a geneticist, with mutations in modern people. The professor argued that “sin is reflected in the genome,” that is, in the offspring, and in general the life expectancy of people has been decreasing over thousands of years as their fall from sin worsens. To prove his conclusion, he cited data from the Holy Scriptures that “before the flood” people lived for more than 900 years.
Despite the fact that the Bible indeed contains lines about Adam, who lived 930 years, or about 969-year-old Methuselah, many historians are inclined to believe that in “antediluvian” times there could have been a different chronology system. By the way, Alexander Mikhailovich himself admitted this in an interview with AiF, which he gave after his dismissal.
“In fact,” he answered the correspondent, “there is an opinion that these were lunar months. And if we consider an earthly year equal to one lunar month, it turns out that Adam lived not 930 years, as stated in the Bible, but 70-80. But then the age of other forefathers, for example, Abraham, arises. In this calculation system he would have lived only 13 years! This all requires a long and detailed analysis.”
It turns out that Kudryavtsev tried to draw a loud conclusion, but then he realized that not everything in his version fits. This haste, an awkward attempt to connect modern scientific terms with biblical ones, was quickly made public by a number of media outlets, which, according to some opinions, was more like mockery of a person taken by surprise. Well, the top management probably considered that such a position of a scientist is not compatible with the director’s chair.
Meanwhile, literally the next day, two organizations stood up for the dismissed head of the Institute of General Genetics, which not so long ago had the opposite attitude towards faith in God — the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the Russian Orthodox Church.
So, communist, State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov, in an interview with NEWS.ru, said that Kudryavtsev needs to be reinstated and apologize to him. In his opinion, the researcher’s words were taken out of context.
Gavrilov believes that Alexander Kudryavtsev expressed his personal opinion. “If he was fired due to an incorrect interpretation of the theses of his speech, then, in my opinion, the scientist should be reinstated and apologize,” he added.
The deputy was supported by the chairman of the Patriarchal Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church on Family Issues, protection of motherhood and childhood, priest Fyodor Lukyanov. In an interview with RIA Novosti, he called the dismissal of believer Kudryavtsev a violation of ethics on the part of officials. He also added that genetics had long been considered a pseudoscience, as it contradicted “Darwin’s unproven hypothesis.”
