MOSCOW, January 31 Choreographer Daniil Gleikhengauz said that the fault Eteri Tutberidze's team is present in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was disqualified for violating anti-doping rules, since they did not save the athlete.
On Wednesday, the figure skater's coach Tutberidze said that after two years the anti-doping services were still unable to establish the origin of the drug trimetazidine in Valieva's doping test.
“I don’t understand how this substance got into Kamila’s sample. I know for sure that none of us could advise our athlete to take doping, and I am sure of Kamila that she never intentionally used it. I myself would give a lot, to find out the truth about how the substance ended up in her sample. All this time, the lawyers asked us not to comment on the situation, so as not to make things worse. After all, a complex process was going on. For my part, I did what I could to help understand the situation. I went to interrogation, participated in hearings via video link. I am ready to continue to do everything so that the truth is found. Our guilt, in any case, is present, since we did not save our athlete. This makes my soul sad and painful,» Gleikhengauz wrote on Instagram (the activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are prohibited in Russia as extremist).
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on January 29 disqualified Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules and canceled her results at tournaments from December 25, 2021. The CAS statement said Valieva «failed to prove that she did not dope intentionally.» On January 30, the International Skating Union (ISU) approved the new top three medalists in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympics. After Valieva’s results were annulled, the Russians dropped from first place to third; gold went to the American team, silver to the Japanese. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) announced that it will file an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.
