A kindergarten in Moscow denied rumors that children needed medical care after the fire

MOSCOW, February 2 Smoke occurred on January 18 in kindergarten No. 1517 in the north-west of Moscow, none of the children were injured, said the director of the educational institution, Mikhail Shvetsov.
Earlier, information appeared on the Telegram channel “Caution, Moscow” that on January 18, after a fire in the capital’s kindergarten, several children needed medical help due to a non-functioning fire alarm system.

«The information that children needed medical help after a fire in a kindergarten due to a non-working warning system is not correct reality,» Shvetsov said.

He reported that on that day there was smoke in the kindergarten building due to a short circuit of the circuit breaker in the electrical distribution panel on the first floor.
«There was no open fire. All automatic fire protection systems worked normally, including the smoke removal system that worked automatically…» Shvetsov clarified.

According to him, kindergarten employees immediately organized the evacuation of the children. All the students were placed in a nearby building, none of them were injured, and they did not require medical attention.

«Emergency services personnel who arrived at the scene checked all the premises and interviewed witnesses. The passage to the special equipment building was not blocked by other vehicles. The emergency vehicles were parked in the appropriate place,» the director added.
He also said that the management of the preschool institution bears personal responsibility for the life, health and safety of children, and therefore strictly monitors compliance with all requirements, including fire and electrical safety.

“Currently, the building’s power supply and automatic fire protection systems are operational and operational,” the director explained.
He clarified that classes in kindergarten are now continuing as usual. Children are under strict control and there is no threat to them.
«And in the summer, when the children are on vacation, we additionally plan to modernize the power supply system and replace individual elements of electrical equipment. The school is provided with the necessary funding for this,» he added.
