MOSCOW, January 29 Autographs of the Russian artist Nicholas Roerich will be put up for online auction on February 1 in total for 250 thousand rubles, the press service of the Litfond auction house reported.
“The Literary Fund will put up the autographs of Nicholas Roerich for auction in Yekaterinburg. The upcoming online auction will take place on February 1 on the Bidspirit platform at 19.00 Moscow time and at 21.00 Ekaterinburg time,” the message says.
It is noted that Roerich’s autograph on a lithograph from the painting of his youngest son Svyatoslav Roerich “Portrait of N.K. Roerich with the Sacred Casket” will be put up for auction for 180 thousand rubles. The work was made in New York in the late 1920s using chromolithography and published on the initiative of the New York Nicholas Roerich Museum. Below is a handwritten autograph: «An come Serge Fleury — amitir cordiale. Paris. 9.X.1930» («To Count Serge Fleury — dear friend. Paris. 9.X.1930»).
In addition, a typewritten letter-certificate of Roerich with his signature (India, Naggar, 1933) for 70 thousand rubles will be presented at the auction. The document has an embossed coat of arms of the Roerichs at the top left and contains text in English.
Nicholas Roerich was born on October 9, 1874 in St. Petersburg. His legacy includes more than seven thousand works, including paintings, mosaics, frescoes, sketches and scenery designs. The artist founded the international cultural movements “Peace through Culture” and “Banner of Peace”, was an Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts, worked successfully as a set designer in particular for the “Russian Seasons”, and actively participated in projects for the protection and revival of Russian antiquity. In 1935, he authored the international treaty «Pact of Peace» (Roerich Pact) on the protection of cultural heritage throughout the world.
