MOSCOW, February 8Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated Russian scientists on Science Day, noting its importance for the country and citizens. His words are quoted in a message on the website of the Russian government
The date February 8 was chosen for this holiday because on this day in 1724, Emperor Peter I ordered the creation of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Thursday marks the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Science is the driver of development of any state. It is scientists who are the first to accept the technological and other challenges facing the country,” Chernyshenko noted.
Science today works to fulfill the practical tasks set by President Vladimir Putin to achieve technological sovereignty, ensuring the connection of education, scientific developments, and technological entrepreneurship for the successful implementation of specific projects, Chernyshenko added.
“This applies to areas such as genetics, biology, physics, thermonuclear energy, artificial intelligence and other areas. For example, thanks to the domestic scientific school, we were the first in the world to create a vaccine against Covid,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Chernyshenko recalled that in the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by the President of Russia, the profession of a scientist is becoming more popular and more prestigious every year. Thus, according to VTsIOM, 65% of parents would like their children to connect their lives with science. Also, for the first time in the history of modern Russia, the outflow of scientific personnel has been stopped — this is the most important indicator confirming the demand for the work of a scientist.
«Russian science has been forged over centuries: this year we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and honor those who put their soul, strength and knowledge into strengthening the research potential of our country. To effectively solve strategic problems, the contribution of each of the 340 thousand is important scientists of Russia, among whom more than 100 thousand are representatives of scientific youth,” he added.
There are 15 world-class research and educational centers in the country; 36 subjects, 157 universities, 142 scientific organizations and 383 industrial partners are involved in their work. The “Megagrants” program, the federal project “Advanced Engineering Schools”, and the state program “Priority 2030” are also being implemented.
In Russia, within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”, “megascience” class projects have been launched, which have no analogues in the world and surpass existing installations in their characteristics. Initiatives of this level make it possible to provide scientists with qualitatively new conditions for further promising developments.
In conclusion, Chernyshenko wished the scientists success and new discoveries for the benefit of domestic science: “The history of our Motherland confirms: strong science means strong Russia. This means that we will cope with all tasks together.”
