MOSCOW, February 8, Ivan Orekhov. Russian boxer, former world heavyweight champion Denis Lebedev, in a conversation with a correspondent, said that the decision to disqualify figure skater Kamila Valieva is political, adding that for Russians the results at the 2022 Olympic Games will remain the same.
Sports The Court of Arbitration (CAS) on January 29 disqualified Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules and annulled her results in competitions from December 25, 2021. The next day, the International Skating Union (ISU) approved the new top three medalists in the team figure skating tournament at the Beijing Olympics. After Valieva’s results were annulled, the Russian team dropped from first place to third, gold went to the Americans, silver to the Japanese. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) announced that it will file an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.
“»I fully support the statement of (Russian Presidential Press Secretary) Dmitry Peskov: the situation is unprecedented, sports and politics are mixed. I am glad that our government does not «reconsiders neither the prize money nor the results of those Games — for us they remain the same. Everything else is up to God, God is the judge of everyone,» Lebedev said.
