MOSCOW, February 8In the debate between the parties, the prosecutor requested 8 years in prison for the ex-director of Ksenia Sobchak's company «Caution Media» Kirill Sukhanov and 7.5 years for the former editor-in-chief of Tatler magazine Arian Romanovsky (according to Kuzmin's passport) in the case of extorting 11 million rubles from the head of » Rostec» Sergei Chemezov, the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow reported.
““The state prosecutor, in the debate between the parties, asked to impose 8 years of imprisonment on Sukhanov and 7.5 years in prison for Kuzmin,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
She added that for the third defendant Timur Bigaev, the prosecutor also demanded 7.5 years in prison. Everyone — in a maximum security colony.
The Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow began considering the case in July, the process is being held behind closed doors. According to investigators, Sukhanov extorted 11 million rubles from Chemezov for “blocking” the publication of defamatory information in the “Lights Out” telegram channel, where Romanovsky and Bigaev were administrators, as well as for deleting one of the posts.
The defendants do not admit guilt. According to them, an amount of 800 thousand rubles was discussed for the removal of the above post, ten million concerned a further contract for moderation of publications mentioning Chemezov. They considered this communication rather commercial and businesslike; there were no threats or demands on their part, and therefore no extortion, the defendants themselves said.
Sobchak initially stated that she had nothing to do with the “Lights Out” channel or its fake counterpart, which contained information about an allegedly launched investigation against Chemezov. Nevertheless, on the eve of Sukhanov’s arrest, she left Russia. She later returned to Moscow, visited the Rostec office, and then apologized to Chemezov for the employees.
