MOSCOW, February 8Russian science is getting younger and is now one of the youngest in the world, in Russian universities the number of graduates who have completed postgraduate studies with thesis defense is growing, said the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevsky.
“»Our science is getting younger and is now one of the youngest in the world: 44.1% of scientists in 2022 are under the age of 39, and in 2010 it was 35.5%. And the greatest growth occurs in the age group from 30 to 39 years , that is, these are no longer university graduates, these are young people, but with experience in scientific work, this means that our science has a good future. The number of students in graduate school is growing, and at the same time the percentage of those who graduate from graduate school with a dissertation defense is growing, this is very important, efficiency postgraduate studies are growing,” Mogilevsky said during a press conference.
Also, according to the deputy minister, the country needs to solve the problem of ensuring Russia’s technological sovereignty in a short time; for this it is important to begin career guidance work among children in secondary school.
«We must make every effort to solve the problem of ensuring the technological sovereignty of our country in the shortest possible time… It is very important that our young people, our schoolchildren, plan their careers in advance in such a way that a boy or a girl in high school would want to become an engineer, because if such a decision is made before entering a university, then you can’t learn physics in two months, you have to start learning it right away. And this is a big educational work, career guidance,” added Mogilevsky .
