PYATIGORSK, February 13 A criminal case was opened in North Ossetia after the death of a man who accidentally drank vinegar that was in a purchased bottle of mineral water, reports SUSC for the republic.
According to the investigation, last Sunday a 65-year-old man drank “mineral water from one of the manufacturers” purchased at a retail outlet in the city of Vladikavkaz at home, after which he felt ill. The victim was taken to the hospital, however, despite timely assistance, he died there.
«A criminal case has been opened regarding the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person through negligence (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) «, says the Telegram channel of the investigative department.
Earlier, the head of North Ossetia Sergei Menyailo reported that a resident of Vladikavkaz received a burn to the esophagus after taking a sip from a bottle of Jermuk mineral water. The entire batch of mineral water from the store where Jermuk vinegar was sold was confiscated, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, wrote earlier.
The water was sent for examination, and the warehouse of the official distributor of the manufacturer was also sealed. How exactly vinegar ended up in mineral water is being clarified.
Rospotrebnadzor, meanwhile, announced the suspension of the sale of certain batches of Jermuk mineral water for safety testing. The operator of the «Honest Sign» labeling system, the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies, confirmed that in total more than 2.4 million bottles from this batch are in retail sale in 84 regions of Russia.
