Israeli fighter jets have carried out their deepest airstrikes in Lebanon, reigniting fears of regional war.
The series of deadly strikes amid months of cross-border violence came after Hezbollah rockets killed a woman in a northern Israeli town , which had not previously been subject to daily border clashes.

Emergency services said one woman was killed and eight others were injured as a result of 20 rockets fired at the city of Safed and other areas in the north.

Safed, which lies 13 kilometers from the Lebanese border and is home to an important IDF base, was largely unscathed by gunfire between Israel and Hezbollah following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. The city has not received evacuation orders, unlike some areas of northern Israel.

Iran has previously praised Hezbollah's «resistance» to Israel but insisted it has no control over the actions of its allies.
The Israel Defense Forces responded Wednesday afternoon with attacks on a dozen villages deep in southern Lebanon, including some 25 kilometers from the border, a departure from previous tactics of only targeting Hezbollah targets close to the border.
By At least four people, including a woman and her two children, were killed and 11 wounded in Israeli airstrikes on two cities in the south of the country, according to Lebanese Civil Defense.
The Lebanese government “also bears responsibility”
Benny Gantz, an opposition leader turned member of the coalition government, said Wednesday that the Lebanese government was “also responsible” for the attack and vowed to respond “with force.”
Wednesday's attack has emboldened local officials and right-wing politicians to renew calls for the Israeli government to launch an offensive against Hezbollah to stop the attacks.
Moshe Davidovich, head of the regional council in northern Israel, said news site Walla that Israel must “wake up to the threat.”
