The Italian brand Lancia, now owned by the Stellantis corporation, returns to the large European market with the new generation Ypsilon subcompact hatchback. The debut version of the new Ypsilon is called Edizione Limitata Cassina, it is equipped with an all-electric powertrain, but there will also be relatively affordable versions with a gasoline turbo engine.
The Stellantis corporation has been carefully preparing for the revival of the Lancia brand for the last couple of years and, it seems, even went a little overboard with numerous teasers of the new Ypsilon: its design was declassified two weeks ago, so today during the full premiere there was no wow effect — the aesthetic features of the new product are already available to everyone We managed to review and discuss, it’s just that now we have more pictures and basic technical characteristics at our disposal.

Lancia management considers the new Ypsilon to be the fourth generation, as it dates back to the Lancia Y10, a hatchback that in the mid-1980s was the first in the world to bring premium standards of comfort to an urban small car. The “fourth” Ypsilon should also become the standard of comfort in the B-class, for which a partnership has been concluded with the Italian manufacturer of designer furniture Cassina, who made a significant contribution to the interior design of the new Ypsilon and tried to make it as cozy as a home living room.

The climate control is equipped with a fine air filter that filters out 99% of harmful particles. For the hatchback, the richest possible set of electronic driver assistants is announced, up to the second level autopilot according to the SAE classification. Meanwhile, even in company photographs it is clear that there is not much space in the second row, and the trunk is narrow in the opening and has a high threshold. Overall length of the new Ypsilon is 4080 mm, width — 1760 mm, height — 1440 mm.

The new Ypsilon is based on the modular CMP platform, on which most of the modern B-class models of the Stellantis corporation are built, and therefore all the hardware is the same as that of classmates of other brands from the Stellantis pool; even special ones are not announced for Ypsilon in the press release chassis settings. Meanwhile, in 2025, Ypsilon will have a sports version of HF, and there will certainly be special settings there. The letters HF stand for High Fidelity and mean high performance; in the last century Lancia widely used them to mark their sports models, but Ypsilon did not have the HF version before.
