MOSCOW, February 14The head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, told Russian President Vladimir Putin about a domestic development for restoring vision — a chip that is implanted on the cerebral cortex.
On Wednesday, the President took part in the Forum of Future Technologies, which is dedicated to the innovative development of medicine. Before the speech, he examined the stands with presentations of promising Russian developments in this area.
Murashko told Putin, among other things, about a device for restoring vision, when a chip is implanted on the cerebral cortex and allows you to restore contour vision. According to him, the device has been created and is already undergoing clinical trials; after their completion, it will be implemented.
“»About the same thing that Musk does, right?» — Putin asked.
The minister noted that “this is a slightly different direction.” “Mask restores conductivity, and this area concerns specifically the restoration of vision. We have both hearing aids and vision restoration — that’s what we tested and used today,” added Murashko.
At the end of January, American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced that the first person received an implant from his brain chip company Neuralink and is feeling well. According to Musk, the first data obtained on the operation of the device show promising results. Musk later wrote that Neuralink's new device is called Telepathy. It gives the owner the ability to control a smartphone or computer using the power of thought and is primarily created for people who have lost the ability to use their limbs.
During the presentation, the head of the Ministry of Health also told the president about Russian achievements in neuroprosthetics and the development of bionic prostheses, and about genetic technologies , which are used in diagnosis, treatment and drug development. “In general, genetics today has become an end-to-end technology that allows us to move forward,” noted Murashko.
