MOSCOW, February 14 There are many requests from library workers about what to do with the books of foreign agents, this issue is being studied in the State Duma Committee on Culture, its head Elena Yampolskaya said.
“A lot of requests come from library workers who do not understand what to do with books, persons declared foreign agents, authors, persons who have already been prosecuted under these very serious articles. And some of them are included in the list of terrorists and extremists , like the same (Boris) Akunin*, what to do with this literature, which librarians would happily get rid of, but cannot do it legally… our committee is now working hard on this,” she said during the committee meeting.
In turn, State Duma deputy Elena Drapeko noted that it is necessary to put up a “barrier” so that works that contradict the traditional values of Russia do not appear. “Perhaps the attitude of those who make the decision to launch or publish or distribute such literature that could be harmful… the question arises… not all works of terrorists and enemies of the people are so harmful,” Drapeko added.
Yampolskaya replied that this is the question, that such works will not be classified as extremist materials.
«People who have been prosecuted on very serious charges that are fundamentally important for our society today, people who are recognized as foreign agents, included in the list of extremists and terrorists, simply in fairness should be deprived of the opportunity for such work, which then, creative, is being presented to an audience of millions,” concluded the head of the committee. She added that work in this direction is already underway.
