MOSCOW, February 24 Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev expressed condolences on the death of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Lebedev, calling it a huge, irreparable loss and noting Lebedev’s significant contribution to increasing the efficiency of the judicial branch of government, the deputy chairman’s secretariat reported.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Lebedev, died at the age of 80. He has been Chairman of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR since 1989, and since 1991 — Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
«Please accept my deepest condolences on the death of Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev. This is a huge, irreparable loss for his colleagues, family and friends, for our entire country. A lawyer of the highest qualifications, a talented scientist, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich made a significant contribution to the development of the domestic justice system, increasing effectiveness of the judicial branch of state power,» Medvedev said.
The Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council emphasized that Lebedev's achievements were based on wisdom and experience, a clear vision of tasks, the ability to achieve specific, significant results, the utmost responsibility.
“Heading the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich was always guided by the principles of strict observance of the Law, impartially defended the rights and freedoms of people, did a lot to strengthen the foundations of a modern state. And at the same time, he successfully combined a large amount of administrative responsibilities with research activities,” noted Medvedev.
He added that he knew Lebedev “as a wonderful professional, energetic and purposeful person, who was distinguished by an unconventional approach to his work and a strong civic position.”
“And, of course, he appreciated his goodwill, intelligence and responsiveness. Please convey words of sympathy and support to colleagues, relatives and friends of Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev. I sincerely share your pain and sorrow,» Medvedev concluded.
