SARATOV, February 27 A court in the Saratov region on Tuesday again acquitted the son of the vice-governor of the Saratov region Igor Pivovarov, former police officer Ivan Pivovarov in a criminal case of beating a cohabitant, reported the office of the magistrate of court district No. 3 of the city of Balakovo.
Earlier, the Saratov news agency Vzglyad-info published an appeal from Balakovo resident Kristina Khruslova that on the night of September 9, 2022, a police officer living with her, the son of a high-ranking regional official, allegedly first killed one of her dogs in her apartment in front of her eyes, then beat the woman, and after she ran away, he killed the second dog. Footage from a camera in the entrance was also published, where a man kicked a small dog, causing it to fly several meters away.
In a criminal case of private prosecution, Ivan Pivovarov was charged under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Intentional infliction of minor harm to health.” On March 16, 2023, the magistrate’s court acquitted him “for the absence of a crime.” On May 31, the Balakovo District Court overturned the verdict and again acquitted the defendant “for lack of evidence of a crime.” The Court of Cassation overturned the verdict and sent the case for retrial to the court of first instance.
“(Pivovarov) was acquitted for lack of evidence of a crime,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
As follows from the case card on the website of court district No. 3 of Balakovo, the case was considered by Magistrate Alexei Petrov since December last year. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
As the court of cassation reported, according to the case materials, on September 9, 2022, a conflict occurred between the former deputy traffic police department Pivovarov and the victim due to the termination of relations between them. During the conflict, against the backdrop of existing hostility, Pivovarov caused bodily harm to the victim. On the same day, the victim contacted the police and subsequently received medical assistance.
Earlier, after Khruslova’s appeal, the regional prosecutor’s office withdrew the investigation material from the police and instructed the investigative authorities to check the woman’s statement. The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Vladimir Burmatov, stated that the son of the vice-governor should lose his job in law enforcement and face criminal liability for cruelty to animals.
