Senior Tories fear super-rich donors have a stranglehold on Downing Street , as they claim the Prime Minister is “on bail” from a small group of wealthy people.

The Conservative Party is now more reliant on a small group of donors than it has been since registration began more than two decades ago. , according to an analysis of records kept by the Electoral Commission.

The Sunday Telegraph examined the top 10 donors in any given year as a proportion of the total donations received by the two main parties.

In the past Three quarters of Tory donations came from just 10 people this year, up from 40 per cent in 2022 and the highest since 2001.
