A Palestinian flag placed along a highway in the West Bank
An Israeli was injured after kicking down a Palestinian flag that turned out to be an explosive trap.
The flag was placed along a highway in the West Bank in what appeared to be a provocative gesture towards Israeli residents of the nearby settlement of Kochav HaShahar.
A man identified by the Times of Israel as being on on duty as an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reservist, stopped his car on the side of Highway 458 to remove it.
The video shows him marching across a field and then knocking down a flag with one kick. When the flag falls, an explosion occurs, causing the man to fall to the floor and become covered in smoke and debris.
Passengers inside the car could be heard screaming as they filmed the incident as there was initially no sign of the man. However, the Israeli volunteer organization Rescuers Without Borders said he escaped with only minor injuries. After being treated on the side of the road, he declined hospitalization.
The IDF said it was investigating the incident.
Clashes continue
The flag bomb comes amid further clashes between Palestinians and Israelis in the West Bank and in Jerusalem.
On Sunday, the IDF announced that Israeli troops had shot and killed two Palestinian militants who opened fire and tried to stab soldiers. near the city of Hebron.
The gunmen, who were not named by the IDF, reportedly pulled a knife on soldiers near the Beit Einun intersection around 7 a.m. and opened fire on the soldiers.
Both suspects, confirmed to be 18 and 19 years old, were killed in the ensuing shootout. According to the Israeli military, not a single IDF soldier was injured.
Hours earlier, a woman was killed while attempting to stab an IDF soldier at a checkpoint in the northern West Bank.
< p>The weekend violence followed large-scale IDF raids in the Nur Shams refugee camp near town of Tulkarm, in which, according to the Israeli military, at least 14 Palestinian militants were killed and 10 Israeli soldiers were wounded.
< p>On Monday, at least three people were wounded in the Romem area in northern Jerusalem in as a result of a suspected terrorist attack. The video shows a white car speeding into a group of men and killing them.
After the accident, one of the suspected terrorists got out of the car with a homemade Carlo assault rifle and tried to start a fire, police said. They said the firearm jammed and the suspect abandoned it as he and his accomplice attempted to flee on foot. The local ambulance service said three victims suffered «minor injuries.»
