Scientists have named an unexpected way to slow down aging

Scientists have named an unexpected way to slow down aging: calorie restriction

An unexpected driving cause of aging has been named – the accumulation of IgG antibodies in adipose tissue. Restricting calories in the diet can slow this process, says a paper published in the journal Cell Metabolism.

Severe metabolic dysfunction is a key characteristic of aging. The new study, using data from experiments on human and mouse adipose tissue, showed that the concentration of IgG antibodies in the samples increased with age. This process began early in life.

The article notes that the accumulation of IgG antibodies can lead to inflammatory processes, subsequent scarring of adipose tissue and loss of sensitivity of fat cells to insulin. This, in turn, can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Calorie restriction can slow down and even reverse the accumulation of IgG antibodies. This helps maintain normal functioning of adipose tissue over a longer period of time.
