MOSCOW, May 3. The Russian military has come up with an unusual defense for the Msta-S self-propelled artillery mount, using armor made of logs to protect against Ukrainian UAVs, writes the Polish publication Interia.
“»Is such wooden armor really effective? Oddly enough. , this is not such a stupid solution. The idea here is to distance the explosion from standard armor, causing the shaped charge of the projectile to explode at a distance exceeding the optimal distance for hitting equipment,” the material says.
Journalists noted that with such a non-standard modification, the self-propelled gun looks like a wooden hut or equipment from a film in the “post-apocalypse” genre.
On April 26, German journalist Julian Roepke, in a report for Bild, noted another unusual way of modifying Russian tanks to protect against Ukrainian Armed Forces drones: the armored vehicles were covered with an additional layer of iron sheets.
