Abdul Malik criticizes Bristol mayor for displaying Israeli flag colors
Second Green Party councilor under fire after calling Israel ” oppressor” after the October 7 attacks.
Abdul Malik, who was elected to represent the Ashley constituency in Bristol on Thursday, was previously a Liberal Democrat candidate before defecting to the Labor Party to support Jeremy Corbyn's policies.< /p>
It comes as anti-Semitism campaigners called it “astonishing” the Greens' refusal to suspend Moteen Ali, a councilor who shouted “Allahu Akbar” after his election and said on October 7 that Palestinians have the right to “fight back”. /p>
Greens and independent candidates benefited from a pro-Palestinian stance in Thursday's local elections, while support for the Labor Party among Muslims fell due to Sir Keir Starmer's initial refusal to call for an immediate ceasefire.

Mr Malik said in a separate post that the mayor of Bristol had made an “unwelcome statement”. decision to light up Bristol City Hall in the blue and white of the Israeli flag in memory of those killed.
Meanwhile, the Green Party confirmed it had launched an investigation into Ali, but that he would not lose his party membership in the process.

The charity Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said: “It is simply astonishing that the Greens would choose someone like Moteen Ali and campaign for him, and now not only clearly refuse to exclude him, but even celebrate his victory and defend him.
“It’s as if the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s report on antisemitism in our politics never happened. The Green Party may care about our planet, but there is growing evidence that they care about the Jews who also live on it.”
A government spokesman said: “The Green Party is on a well-trodden path. path. The Labor Party has been riding a sectarian tiger for decades.
“The tiger is starting to fight back. This is a losing game for everyone and it will end very badly.”
A 2019 EHRC report found that Labor had broken the law by failing to prevent “acts of harassment and discrimination” and found that the leadership Mr Corbyn “hasn't done enough” to prevent anti-Semitism.
Moteen Ali chanted “From the river to the sea”
Mr Ali said at a pro-Palestinian march that Israel “controls” the mainstream media, while he was recorded chanting “from the river to the sea” at a separate demonstration.
In a video posted to his TikTok account, the 42-year-old told fellow activists: “We have just witnessed the complete failure of IDF [Israel Defense Forces] propaganda.
“Their lies are undefended. Our power in social media is absolutely enormous. They control the mainstream media, but each of us here controls the narrative.”
Mr Ali posted a second clip in which he shouted “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” as he filmed protesters.
The slogan originally called for the creation of a secular state in historical Palestine, but it can also be interpreted as a call for the destruction of Israel. It has also been used by groups including Hamas to call for the expulsion of Jews from the region, as well as ethnic cleansing and genocide.

And in a clip recorded the day after the events of October 7. attacks, he said: “It didn’t start yesterday, it started 75 years ago when the land of Palestine was seized, the indigenous population was expelled…
“ This is white racism, this is nothing more than European settler-colonialism state… When they resist, the European media suddenly rebels.”
Mr Ali slammed Sir Keir, whom he called an “extreme Zionist”, and also called Suella Braverman a “wicked witch” after she criticized pro-Palestinian marches.
Candidates running in support of the Gaza Strip , defeated their Labor opponents throughout no less than 12 councils last week.
Kahlil Khan, the independent candidate who unseated a veteran Labor councilor in Thameside, Manchester, wrote on his campaign website: “Labour's failure to declare Israel's actions in Gaza a potential genocide is a disgrace.”

Meanwhile, seven of the nine candidates belonging to the Blackburn Independent Parties, a group which used Palestinian flags, were elected to Blackburn along with Darwen Council after their aims were described as “advocating justice and filling the gaps left by the mainstream policy regarding the Palestinian Cause.”
The Green Party, Mr Ali and Mr Malik were contacted for comment.

Mr Ali previously stated: “I have received hundreds of death threats from the far right and supporters of the Israeli government's actions, many of which have been reported to the police.”< /p> >
“I fully understand the emotional distress that threats of violence can cause, and I do not wish this on others… The video in question has absolutely nothing to do with violence.”
