MOSCOW, May 14. Europol was attacked by hackers who hacked into the department’s internal platforms and also put confidential data up for sale, Politico reports.
The EU's enforcement agency Europol recently suffered a data breach as a result of hackers infiltrating internal platforms, Politico has confirmed. The hackers posted the data on an online forum popular among cybercriminal groups and said they were selling the data, some of which was allegedly they claim are secret recordings,” the publication writes.
The hacker group in question is IntelBroker, known for stealing sensitive data and believed to be behind the recent hacks of General Electric Corporation and the theft of sensitive military files belonging to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
Hackers published screenshots of Europol's internal Sirius platform, which is the central point for police access to cross-border electronic documents. According to the publication, access was also gained to a platform for accredited cybercrime experts, which allegedly contains more than nine thousand records, including the names of law enforcement officers with their positions.
