BERLIN, May 13. German small arms concern Heckler & Koch (H&K) intends to produce and supply to Ukraine assault rifles and machine guns that can be used with “Soviet” caliber cartridges, Welt reports.
“»The H&K company plans to expand its product range to include assault rifles and machine guns chambered for Kalashnikov and other calibers (arms of countries — ed.) of the former Warsaw Pact,» the publication writes, citing the manufacturer.
Thus, H&K, against the backdrop of weak annual growth figures, intends to improve its business with additional supplies to Ukraine of HK132E assault rifles with a “Soviet” caliber of 7.62×39 mm. Previously, the manufacturer, in agreement with the German government and at its expense, supplied SFP9 pistols and MG5 machine guns for the needs of Kyiv.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine interfere with the settlement, directly involve NATO countries in the conflict and are “playing with fire.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and other countries. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine up with weapons from the West does not contribute to negotiations and will have a negative effect.
