According to Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba in an interview with the BBC, the life of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is not in danger after the assassination attempt on May 15. Taraba noted that the operation was successful and he is confident that Fico will be safe. At the moment, his life is not in danger.
The incident occurred when a gunman hiding among the crowd opened fire on the Prime Minister, who was speaking to the audience. Fico was hospitalized in an induced coma. The attacker, a 71-year-old local resident of Levice, fired several times from a short-barreled gun, after which he tried to escape, but was detained by witnesses and the prime minister's security.
