Mitsubishi unveils new products: crossovers and off-road minivan

North America will be the main market for the announced models. However, most likely, new items will appear in other regions in one form or another.

In the development strategy of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, published several years ago, Southeast Asia and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) were declared as priority markets for Mitsubishi. In its own plan, which was presented last year, the company confirmed this “consolidation”. However, Mitsubishi still does not refuse other regions. Thus, in Europe, fresh Renault models are already being sold under the Japanese brand. And now Mitsubishi has presented a separate strategy for North America called Momentum 2030, it is designed for fiscal years 2026 – 2030.

During this period, the company intends to annually introduce at least one new or restyled model to the North American market. Moreover, this plan provides for the appearance of Mitsubishi cars in America in those segments in which the brand is not represented today. There will be no abandonment of internal combustion engines, but, of course, they will not forget about electrification: hybrids (including rechargeable ones) and full-fledged electric cars are being prepared. In addition, the dealer network will be expanded in the United States.

Future Mitsubishi lineup for North America

The press release dedicated to the Momentum 2030 strategy is accompanied by a picture hinting at future models. The teaser shows seven cars. The two crossovers in the foreground are possibly the restyled Mitsubishi Outlander and its “off-road” version. Yes, American specialized media believe that the brand has decided to follow in the footsteps of Subaru and Honda, which launched the off-road Wilderness and TrailSport lines in the States, respectively.

Perhaps this is a restyled Mitsubishi Outlander 1/2 And this — its off-road version 2/2

In the center we see a rather large car, which is very similar to the Mitsubishi D:X concept crossover, presented last year at an exhibition in Tokyo. To the left of the minivan are a compact SUV with optics in the style of one of the upcoming Nissan models and a rather brutal SUV. On the right are two more crossovers. By the way, it was previously reported that Mitsubishi will make a pickup truck for America together with Nissan, so it is possible that one of the cars in the background is not a crossover at all. Well, we would also venture to assume that new models with “three diamonds” will subsequently appear in other regions.

Meanwhile, in the States, the Mitsubishi line today includes only four models: the aforementioned Outlander crossover , Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport SUVs (aka the old ASX), Mirage hatchback and sedan. In the USA, the brand is still in the black: last year, 87,340 cars were sold there (+1.8%), the result of the first quarter of 2024 is 28,403 units. (+35.6%).
