NIZHNY NOVGOROD, May 24. Despite the fact that the number of cyber attacks on Russia has increased sharply, this is not a cyber war, said the President of InfoWatch Group of Companies, Chairman of the Board of ARPP Domestic Software «Natalia Kasperskaya.
“The number of attacks on the Russian Federation has increased sharply, but it cannot be called cyberwar,” Kasperskaya said on the sidelines of the CIPR-2024 exhibition.
She explained that with a massive cyber war, it is possible to shut down a significant part of the infrastructure. For example, turning off base stations or smartphones because they are foreign, which means that a significant part of the infrastructure tied to mobile communications will “just stop.”
According to her, any war is a double-edged sword, and such shutdown of infrastructure can only be applied once. “After we deal with this, all tools of influence will be lost,” Kasperskaya explained.
A sharp increase in cyber attacks occurred during the Russian presidential elections from March 15 to 17. Thus, Roskomnadzor reported to the agency that during this period 497 DDoS attacks were carried out on the country’s infrastructure, and the longest attack lasted 40 hours and 12 minutes. At the same time, the regulator’s specialists ensured the protection of 920 significant Russian resources. Cyber attacks were carried out simultaneously on all election infrastructure resources.
