MOSCOW, May 27. Information about the facts of licking eggs in stores in Yekaterinburg was not received by Rospotrebnadzor, the agency’s administration for the Sverdlovsk region reported, recalling that eggs must be heat treated to prevent acute intestinal infections.
On May 22, the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor informed that since May 16, the department received 18 emergency notifications of acute intestinal infections from residents of Yekaterinburg, “who consumed products purchased in the Zhiznmart chain of stores.” Studies have shown that the diseases are caused by various pathogens – salmonella, rotavirus and noroviruses. Later, the department clarified that E. coli bacteria were found in a number of samples taken in stores.
The press service of the Ural chain “Lifemart” reported: the fact that Yekaterinburg residents were poisoned en masse by dishes from their stores has not yet been proven, the food that the guests ate was withdrawn from sale, and the shipment of products from manufacturers who came into question was stopped. The press service emphasized: if it turns out that the company’s supplier is to blame for mass poisonings, then each victim will be entitled to compensation of 1 million rubles.

The Department of Rospotrebnadzor for the Sverdlovsk Region continues an epidemiological investigation into cases of intestinal infections among Zhiznmart customers, the department clarified. Specialists carefully analyze the history of each sick person who seeks medical help to establish factors of infection transmission, the department emphasized.
To prevent acute intestinal infections, Rospotrebnadzor recommends consuming food and water only of guaranteed quality, checking expiration dates of products and observe storage conditions. In addition, meat, fish and eggs must be subjected to heat treatment, as well as personal hygiene rules must be observed, the department emphasized.
The owner of the Zhiznmart chain of stores, Ivan Zaichenko, urged Yekaterinburg residents not to lick chicken eggs for the sake of the compensation announced by the company of 1 million rubles , clarifying that money can only be paid to those 18 poisoned persons to whom Rospotrebnadzor referred at the beginning of the inspection.
