Wait a minute, brother monsieu!
Once upon a time, when most of today's readers were chopping nettles with a stick, somewhere behind the Iron Curtain the world was ruled by stern gentlemen, iron ladies, or, in other words, at worst, dashing colonels. They didn’t like our general secretaries in the same hats, and they didn’t like us either. In general, they were enemies. But their words meant something. Now macrons have taken their place.
Here is the latest Macron, excerpts, in summary: “We, Europeans, are not at war with Russia and the Russian people. But we do not accept an authoritarian, revisionist government that has decided to play with the future of Europe, building dreams of empire and entertaining its people, taking us back to the worst times of the 20th century. We Europeans want sustainable peace. A world that will allow Ukrainians to protect themselves, that will be chosen and agreed upon by them, that will respect their sovereignty and international law. This will be the world that the Ukrainians themselves will choose.”
“We, the Europeans,” says Macron, who has an approval rating of 26%, of which 32% of French residents have a “rather bad” view, and 41% – “ very bad” (data for April 2024).
These spherical in a vacuum Macron’s “we” do not accept the “authoritarian” government, which has a population support rating of 80%. Does Macron know the meaning of the word “entertainment”? Is SVO, which has become a people's business, entertainment?
Macron “wants a world that the Ukrainians themselves will choose.” Is the bloody coup d'etat staged by the West, the Maidan, a way for Ukrainians to choose the world they want? A puppet government in Kyiv, undisguised external governance of Ukraine, shameless purchase of land, destruction of competitive industry – this is respect for sovereignty and international law?
Ten years ago, the residents of Donbass wanted “a peace that would allow them to protect themselves, which will be chosen and agreed upon by them, which will respect their sovereignty and international law.” But their desire was not important to anyone. And on the same days in May a decade ago, Donbass began to be bombed and crushed with tanks.
And the Russians – their desire to protect themselves, to get a world in which their sovereignty and international law will be respected – are taken into account in Makron’s universe? The same Russians with whom the Macrons do not fight?
The same Russians who took up arms because the words of the Macrons ceased to mean anything.
