General meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences: academicians want their board of trustees to be headed by Putin

Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences voted by a majority to create a board of trustees of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This is necessary to resolve strategic issues and will require an amendment to the federal law on the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Makarov spoke in more detail about the initiative of the Academy to create its own board of trustees.

Despite the fact that the Academy has never had its own board of trustees , it would be worth creating it to support science. The scientist recalled that in pre-revolutionary Russia this form of institution was very common.

And now such a council would help improve the status of the RAS, Makarov noted, but this should be done in such a way that the new council does not run counter to traditions Academy for Self-Government.

The general meeting voted to ask the country's President Vladimir Putin to initiate appropriate amendments and head the RAS Board of Trustees himself.
