MOSCOW, June 1Two strong, but far from record-breaking flares occurred on the surface of the Sun, reported the laboratory of solar astronomy at the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
«Two new X-level flares were produced by area 3697 over half the past day. Both flares were at the lower limit of the X-level. The peak of the first occurred almost exactly at one o'clock in the morning Moscow time (event score — X1.1, that is, only ten percent higher lower threshold),” says the press release.
< br />The second flare was recorded around noon, the maximum time was 11:48 Moscow time, the score was X1.4.
As noted in the laboratory, both events by current standards (now the Sun is close to the peak of its activity, flares of magnitude X5.8 and X8.7 already occurred in May) are not particularly noteworthy. At the same time, scientists note that “the energy in region 3697 stubbornly refuses to end, and the region itself is getting closer and closer to the Sun-Earth line.”
Both outbreaks turned out to be short, with a fast growth phase and an almost equally fast decline phase. According to preliminary data, they will not create any consequences for the Earth.
The laboratory did not rule out that flares could occur in the active center 3697 on the surface of the Sun next week. At the same time, the area has decreased in size compared to the previous passage by the Earth.
