The Washington Post's Joe Biden said voters are right to fear his age.
In a lengthy article, the paper's editors questioned whether the president should run for a second term next the year he turns 82.
«In short, Mr. Biden's age is not necessarily the deciding issue, but it is a real issue and he will have to address it directly, whether or not the choice 2024 between him and Mr. Trump or another Republican,” the newspaper wrote. .
“The public has the right to know details about his health, physical and mental, and what he does to maintain it.”
1304 Biden is the oldest person to ever live in USA.
Despite Biden being in good health by doctors, there is a risk of serious problems during a second term — and possibly the application of the 25th amendment regarding presidential infirmity — the newspaper warned.
An article from a traditionally supportive newspapers will be a blow to Biden, but it reflects the views of a large part of the voters, including Democrats.
Earlier this month, an ABC/Washington Post poll found that 68 percent of Americans believe Mr. Biden is too old for another term.
Unfortunately, for Democrats, only 44 percent think Mr. Mr. Trump, who is four years younger than Mr. Biden, is too old to return to the White House.
Although Mr. Trump also remains unpopular with voters, most respondents said he far superior to Mr. Biden in terms of mental acuity and physical health.
Mr. Biden's sporadic missteps, such as the black and tan mix-up of the All-Blacks rugby team during his recent visit to Ireland, have only reinforced doubts about a second term.
«There is reason to be concerned about Biden's age,» The Washington Post claims.
“His frequent verbal gaffes don’t help them calm down. There is no public evidence that these moments reflect anything other than the forgetfulness and difficulty multitasking that often occurs in otherwise healthy older adults.
“However, in some ways, this is precisely the case. They are normal. Voters can expect more from a second term.”
The recent strong performance of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is battling Biden for the Democratic nomination, is another sign of Democratic concern.
Despite Kennedy Jr. being considered a fringe candidate whose father was assassinated while running for the Oval Office in June 1968, recent polls show that up to a fifth of Democrats support him.

Despite that his chances of winning this nomination are extremely small, Kennedy Jr. could embarrass Biden during the campaign.
The lukewarm support from the usually loyal Washington Post is not the only problem with which faces Mr. Biden, who is in Japan for the G7 summit.
Negotiations with Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, over a debt ceiling increase stalled.
As the US faces default on its debt, the administration is exploring using the 14th Amendment clause to avert a crisis .
This clause, which was contained in the American Civil War Emancipation Amendment, states that «the validity of the United States public debt» should not be questioned.
Constitutional Scholars argue that the application of this clause would allow Mr. Biden to either raise the debt ceiling — or ignore it — without the approval of Congress.
«I'm looking at the 14th amendment as to whether we have the authority — I think we have we have the authority,” he said. said on Sunday.
“The question is, can this be done and called in time so that it is not appealed and, as a result, the date has passed and the debt is still outstanding? This is an issue that I consider unresolved.”
