The brand itself is positioning the model as a completely new segment B SUV, although in reality it is a converted cross-hatch Sandero Stepway of the current generation. The five-door was supposed to reach Russia back in 2022, but now we only have a parallel future.
At the very beginning of last year, Renault announced a couple of premieres for the Russian Federation: the names of the cars were not disclosed then, but it is so clear that it was about the Logan sedan and the new generation Sandero hatchback on the CMF-B platform, and the five-door, according to unofficial data, should have appeared only in the “crossover” version of the Stepway. However, then well-known events happened, and the French company left the Russian market.
So today, Renault officially unveiled one of the models that was previously planned for Russia: this is just a cross-version of the Sandero, only in emerging markets it was decided to position it as a completely new “urban SUV segment B”, for which they came up with the name Kardian (according to marketers’ idea, this name should evoke associations with the word guardian, that is, symbolize “protection and strength”). Note that Logan and Sandero of the third generation are still presented only under the Romanian brand Dacia, while in Turkey the four-door is still produced as Renault, but there it is not Logan at all, but Taliant. It is possible that it is Renault Logan and Sandero that will not be transferred to the next generation. However, back to the hero of today's news.
1/3 2/3Instead of the Russian Federation, Brazil will become the platform for the world debut of the SUV: Renault Kardian will fully open on October 25th. Production will also be set up there (for our country, the model was supposed to be produced by AVTOVAZ). The teasers show only food, but the company intrigues in vain. Firstly, the cross has been captured by spy cameras more than once (including in Russia), and secondly, patent images have long been posted on the Web.
1/3 2/3 3/3Kardian has two-story head optics (running lights are located on top), original grille and bumpers, as well as C-shaped taillights. At the same time, the upcoming SUV differed from the current Dacia Sandero hatchback and its Stepway cross-version not only in design: the hood and doors were also replaced. The interior has not yet been shown, but most likely, like the original Dacia, there will be a “floating” multimedia system tablet inside.

Reno did not talk about Kardian technology. Brazilian specialized media predicted a 1.0 turbo engine for the crossover (power is not specified), but the drive is probably exclusively front-wheel drive.
The SUV will be sold not only in Latin America, but also «in other countries around the world» : apparently referring to markets where Dacia is not present. Well, the Renault Kardian crossover will subsequently be able to get to Russia under the parallel import scheme.
