The footage of the team conducting the tests shows that one of the bodies has an elongated head, two are tilted. eyes and a small upturned nose. Although they bear similarities to fictional depictions of aliens, scientists have yet to suggest that they are actually from another planet.

The Peruvian government said the objects were of pre-Hispanic origin, and local officials said they had opened a criminal investigation into how the bodies left the country.

However Mr Maussan has been unable to explain how the corpses came to him and has a history of spreading discredited stories about aliens.

He appeared in a 2017 television documentary about other remains found near the Nazca Lines, which according to experts say they are fake mummies.

On his recent findings, he said he would reveal everything «at the appropriate time.»
