MOSCOW, February 10 Turkish football club «Adana Demispor» announced on the social network X the transfer of Algerian footballer Youssef Atal from the French “Nice”.
Details of the transaction are not disclosed.
In early January, 27-year-old Atal was given a suspended eight-month prison sentence for inciting racial hatred on social networks. He was also fined 45 thousand euros. The football player filed an appeal against the court verdict.
Previously, the defender published a video on Instagram (the activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia as extremist) in support of Palestine in the Middle East conflict with Israel; he later deleted the post. Also, the footballer had previously posted photos of himself on social networks wearing an Algerian national team T-shirt and a scarf in the colors of the Palestinian flag, but after a while he deleted the publication. Atal later apologized for the video. Nice suspended the player from matches and training.
In mid-January, Atal performed at the African Cup of Nations as part of the Algerian national team, which failed to reach the playoffs. Previously, the media reported about interest in the football player from Russian clubs.
