MOSCOW, February 20 For the first time, a living frog on which a fungus grows has been discovered in the jungles of India, zoologists Chinmay Maliye and Wai T Lohith reported in an article for the scientific journal Reptiles & Amphibians.
Biologists made an unusual discovery in a forest in Karnataka in the summer of 2023. On the left side of a living specimen of the narrow-headed frog Rao, the fruiting body of a mushroom from the genus Mycenae was discovered.
“As far as we know, it has never been possible to record a mushroom that would grow from the side of a living frog,” the researchers assessed the importance of the find.
The article states that a mushroom grown on an animal is usually found on rotting wood.
