Chery is preparing to launch a new sub-brand Jaecoo: official photos of the firstborn

It is assumed that the new SUV will reach the Russian market, but possibly under a different brand.

The fact that Chery is preparing to launch a new sub-brand Jaecoo was first reported by the Chinese Automobiles portal: this was announced as part of a closed online conference dedicated to the upcoming entry into the Kazakhstan market of another brand owned by Chery, Omoda. But branded pictures of the first-born Jaecoo — of course, a crossover — «surfaced» in Vietnam, they were published on their pages on social networks by the local office of the same Omoda. In general, the name of the brand has not yet been officially announced, in the posts it is still designated as “Mr. J”, however, the Vietnamese media are sure that it is about Jaecoo, and the SUV will allegedly go on sale under the name Jaecoo 7.

It is believed that the new brand was created exclusively for export markets, and in some places it may be positioned not as an independent company, but as part of Omoda. In any case, the cars of the new brand (or family) will be up a notch: they are planned to be promoted as light off-road models, while Omoda is aimed at young people who move mainly around the city.

The Jaecoo 7 crossover captured in the official pictures is still pasted over with a camouflage film, but spies have already caught this SUV without a patch of camouflage — and not only with new emblems, but also directly under the Chery brand (in China, the model still bears the internal factory index TJ-1): in particular , the photo was previously published by Autohome. The exterior features of the cross are a giant grille, “pixel” running lights and taillights, headlight blocks lined up in a column and retractable door handles. A separate instrument screen and a vertical touchscreen of the multimedia system were installed in the cabin.

According to unofficial data, the new crossover will be offered with a 1.6 petrol “turbo four”, and a hybrid installation is also planned for it. Most likely, the Jaecoo 7 will be all-wheel drive.

In Vietnam, an SUV is expected at the end of the year, while in China, a model under the Chery brand should debut in the summer. It is possible that the new cross will reach Russia, perhaps under the Omoda brand.

Meanwhile, the second Jaecoo model may turn out to be a slightly redesigned Chery Tiggo 9 SUV: a car with a new logo has already been caught “in the wild”.
