Nationalist MSP forced an innocent woman into a hate crime investigation after she erroneously claimed that opponents of Nicola Sturgeon's gender identity laws ordered her «malicious» bikini wax.
Karen Adam, who represents Banffshire and Buchan Coast for the SNP, complained in December that she was the victim of abuse and intimidation after she received unsolicited approval to visit an intimate parlor.
She publicly accused critics of the laws about self-identification in that they made a booking «focused on my genitals» at the same time that a heated debate in Holyrood about controversial gender laws was to take place.
However, The Telegraph understands that it took a police investigation to find out that the incident was the result of an innocent mix-up in an Edinburgh saloon.
A woman with a very similar name to Ms. Adam tried to make an appointment and the MSP received a confirmation email, which police sources confirmed was an «administrative error».
Ms Adam's critics said her reaction to receiving the email, which she also detailed in a national newspaper column, exposed her «absurd persecution complex» and raised doubts about whether she was smart enough to become an MP.< /p> Hate Crime Investigation
Clearly, the woman who placed the order received a call from the police and was warned that she was in the middle of a hate crime investigation, before it was determined that MSP had reached the wrong conclusion.< /p
“Karen Adam's absurd persecution complex has led her to make wild statements about what appears to be an innocent confusion,” said Marion Calder, director of the For Women Scotland campaign group.
“There's no doubt about it. stressed the spa and the unwitting client at the end of a serious accusation.
«Questions need to be asked about her ability to think rationally and her ability to take responsibility for mistakes, act decently, apologize and correct the record.»< /p>
Ms. Adam initially stated that she was harassed when booking a salon for an extended bikini wax, eyebrow wax and lip wax, on Twitter on Dec. 19.
She warned, «I'll find out who did this,» and raised the issue of police involvement.
Her statement drew sympathy in some local and national newspapers and support on social media. She contacted the salon before calling the police.
She then devoted much of her December 28 newspaper column to the incident, blaming critics of gender reform.
“This violence is spilling out into the real world as predicted,” she wrote. She claimed that the incident caused her to «look over her shoulder and wonder who was possessed» and «provoked».
No crime was committed
Despite the fact that the police determined that no crime was committed, Ms Adam appeared to make no effort to remedy the situation.
Ms Adam was one of the most vocal advocates of the plan to allow Scots to change their legal gender simply by signing a declaration which was later blocked by the government Great Britain.
She served on the Holyrood Equality Committee, which conducted a controversial investigation into the legislation.
She was a strong supporter of Humza Yousaf's SNP leadership bid, but unlike many other first ministerial candidates, Holyrood's supporters did not last week took over as minister.
A police spokeswoman for Scotland said: “On 21 December 2022, we received a report of a potentially malicious booking at a beauty salon in Edinburgh. An investigation was carried out and no crimes were identified.”
A spokeswoman for Ms. Adam said: “In December 2022, a salon with whom Karen had not been in contact before came into contact with her.
«After that and before contacting the police in Scotland, Karen contacted the salon and discovered that her personal contact information had been provided to Karen, and then decided to contact the police in Scotland to look into the matter which she found disturbing.
«Karen is grateful to the police in Scotland for their support.»
