Chris Philp called Keir Starmer «an absolute scam». The police minister said Jeremy Corbyn, his Labor Party predecessor, was on crime.
Chris Philp launched a blatant attack on the Labor Party leader over the party's controversial social media ad campaign that said Rishi Sunak doesn't think child rapists should be jailed.
Responding to a question about the ad at a press briefing on his crime reforms, the police minister said they were «pretty brash», going on to say, «I I think Keir Starmer is a complete swindler and I think he is the wettest Labor leader. we've ever seen when it comes to crime.»
Mr Philp cited what he said was Sir Keir and Labor's «extremely appalling» crime record, including the party voting against government proposals last year to jail rapists and juvenile offenders for longer term.
“They voted against bills to remove foreign offenders more quickly. They voted against the bill, which provided for a mandatory life sentence for child murderers. They voted against a bill to double the sentence for assaulting an emergency worker,” he said.

Asked if the Labor leader was «wetter» than Mr Corbyn, Mr Philp replied: criminal measures, yes. Because if you look at those actual votes, you can see how Keir Starmer's Labor Party actually voted in Parliament on issues like keeping rapists and sex offenders in jail for longer.”
Speaking about his reforms, Mr Philp said the police should not cover mental health calls unless it is life or safety threatening, as he said they take 880,000 hours of work time from officers a year.< /p>
He promised that by the summer he intends to put in place a national agreement between the NHS and 43 English and Welsh Police Forces whereby officers will no longer be «temporary replacements» for mental health calls.
Instead, calls will be covered by the National Health Service, allowing officers to focus on solving crimes. The deal will save 880,000 hours of police time, the equivalent of adding 450 more people to police stations over the course of a year, or giving each of the country's 140,000 police officers six extra hours to fight crime.
«I agree. It is clear that the police should not be an intermediary for other agencies,» Mr. Philp told police leaders, presenting a series of measures to reduce bureaucracy and waste of time by officers.
“Police officers are different things — first responders, advocates, problem solvers and investigators — but they are not, for example, mental health professionals. I believe that the police should not be expected to replace other emergency services when there is no risk to life or safety and no felony has been committed.”
The national scheme will be based on the Humberside Police pilot scheme in which NHS specialists or mental health professionals attend mental health incidents other than 999 life-threatening or public safety calls. This saves 15,000 hours a year for officers.
Mr Philp also confirmed changes to the way crime is recorded to end “double counting” of offenses from a single incident, as well as logging tweets and neighbor disputes which are resolved by the time the police arrive. The changes will save another 430,000 hours of police time per year, according to The Telegraph.
The Home Office is also seeking to eliminate or reduce the need for police officers to edit the evidence they submit to the Home Office. Crown Prosecution Service, which will save several hundred thousand more hours of police time.
