Christopher Hope and Conservative MP Sir Robert Sims
Rishi Sunak could win a majority of 20 votes in next year's general election. said a senior Conservative MP.
Sir Robert Sims, Poole MP since 1997, said the prospects for the Conservative Party were much brighter than they were in the mid-1990s before Labour's arrival. s landslide.
Sir Robert said that the collapse of SNP support in Scotland was exaggerated, which in turn would affect Labor's chances of winning a majority.
& #34;I don't see any scenario where the Labor Party will get an absolute majority", he said.
Asked to predict the outcome of the election, which he predicted would take place in November 2024. Sir Robert told Friday's Chopper's Politics podcast, «I think the Conservatives are 20 votes.»
Sir Robert said the Tory party is not in the same position today as it was in the mid-1990s.
'Most painful experience of my life'
He added, “I was a candidate under John Major for three years and it was the most painful experience of my life. Knocking on the door [now] is a joy compared to those days.
“Every year, every government I have seen has returned. Even John Major started the campaign [in 1997] 22 points behind and finished 13 points behind.
"In 1997, they fell behind by four and a half percent. Now… we are probably 14 or 15 points behind. If the campaign were today, we could probably take eight or nine points out of it, so we would lose five or six.
"But we have 18 months. Eighteen months is a very long time. So there is enough time. What we can't afford is more disasters, more splits, because that will set us back even more.
"So we need a little luck, we need a greater sense of unity, and we need a little favourable wind. But I think it's possible that we can win. More importantly, I do not see any scenario in which the Labor Party would have an absolute majority at all.
