Tottenham players to refund tickets to fans who witnessed Newcastle's humiliation

Harry Kane and his Tottenham teammates lost 6-1 to Newcastle. offered to refund the cost of match tickets to supporters who had come to watch their 6–1 defeat by Newcastle. The Spurs were five goals behind in 21 minutes at St. James Park as they suffered a humiliating defeat to their rivals for a top four spot.

Chairman Daniel Levy sacked acting coach Christian Stellini for the day after the defeat and now the club's players have offered to return the money to the fans who bought tickets for the match.

Clubs should not refund supporters for poor performances

When the alarm went off on (most) of our phones across the UK last Sunday, we were sure that it's just teachings. Tottenham fans didn't think so.

He arrived shortly after their team conceded five goals in 21 minutes to Newcastle United and the club has since been developing a disaster response plan to calm their irate fans.

First they tried score a consolation goal, they then attempted to fire the acting head coach through chairman «Call me Daniel» Levy's personal letter, which was signed «COYS, Daniel». Apparently, this meant «Come on, spurs», and not «cover your supporters.»

Step Four: Offering Fan Refunds. This is the tried and true answer to the most heartbreaking defeats, and exactly what many irate fans reflexively suggested right after. This is easy to say and easy to do, although there is no guidance yet on how to apply for a refund. The club appears to be processing the refund as we speak after the round at the world class training facility.

“As a team, we understand your frustration, your anger,” the players said, typing white text on a dark blue background. “It wasn't good enough. We know that words are not enough in such situations, but trust us, such a defeat hurts. We appreciate your support home and away, and with that in mind, we'd like to refund fans the cost of their tickets to the game from St. James Park.

«We know this doesn't change what happened on Sunday and we will do our best to make things right against Manchester United on Thursday night when your support will mean everything to us again. Together—and only together—we can move forward.”

Everything is very good, as is the refunded ticket for the match, although transport to Newcastle from London is probably much more expensive. But there is a fundamental misunderstanding here about the nature of supporting a football team, especially away from home.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will face protests at a United match

A long time ago, all the regulars of away matches stopped equating the cost of a ticket with the expectation of a pleasant pastime. For most clubs with eroded support, going to an away match is an end in itself. Football is often the only downside to an otherwise enjoyable day at a party with friends.

Large sums are spent on experiences that are more likely to leave you depressed than exhilarated, making personal support for a football team a unique part of our sports culture. That is why there is such anger in times of negligence, such as the Spurs game on Sunday. It is patronizing to think that these fans are such dupes that their dutiful loyalty can be bought at the price of a visit to Leazes End.

Of course, it is better for Tottenham players to admit their own shortcomings. The positive thing is that they took the initiative to organize or agreed to the proposal for this reimbursement. But the club wants you to think that it's all about their fans who attend matches and their loyalty. If that were true, the refund would have been communicated directly to the 3,000 fans in attendance at St. James Park, not to the 8.6 million SpursOfficial Twitter followers.

So hats off, a little reluctantly because the Tottenham players put their hands in their deep pockets. But beware of using traveling fans as a weapon as another marketable asset of a football product.

Their contribution is important to the viability of the Premier League, but they are seen as nothing more than a novelty compared to its billions. consumers around the world. Make no mistake, this gesture is for the many, not the few.
