MOSCOW, December 3The Russian auction holding, which includes the Moscow Auction House, the Auction House of the Graphic Collectors Club and the St. Petersburg Auction House, will hold the first auction of 83 museum-quality lots on December 3 for a preliminary amount of half a billion rubles, the press service of the auction reported.
It will be the first in level and thematically comparable to the canceled “Russian auctions” at Christie's and Sotheby's.
According to the community, the defunct international auctions can be replaced by an institution with a level of expertise that no single market player currently possesses. The auction on December 3 will also be a loud announcement about the creation of an organization of this level — the first auction holding in Russia.
The painting “Ship at sea against the backdrop of mountains” by Ivan Aivazovsky in 1891 will be put up for auction for 55 million rubles.
Also at the auction will be a series of landscapes, including “Villas” by Boris Kustodiev for 70 million rubles, “Summer Landscape” by Ivan Shishkin for 23 million rubles, “Autumn Landscape” by Pyotr Konchalovsky for 14 million rubles and “Himalayas” by Nicholas Roerich for 4 million rubles
In addition, the catalog includes a sketch by Viktor Vasnetsov “The Gray Warrior” for 2.2 million rubles for the program picture from the collections of the Russian Museum.
Co-founder of the Moscow Auction House and managing partner of the holding, Fyodor Svetlakov, believes that reaching a different level is only possible by radically revising the established approach — in terms of management, team, sales, customer service, collection formation, results.
In turn, the founder of the holding and the Moscow auction house, Alexander Popov, recalled that since March 2022, world auction houses have refused to hold “Russian auctions,” the main audience of which were Russian collectors. In his opinion, this has activated the domestic market, but systematic auctions of the level and format to which collectors were “accustomed” to in London will be held in Russia for the first time.
The auction will take place in the historical mansion of F.S. Korobova in Moscow on December 3.
