MOSCOW, December 26The Angara heavy-class rocket will be equipped with returnable reusable stages, said Nikolai Nestechuk, General Director of the Center for the Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities (TSENKI).
“Today we cannot say that we have completely abandoned reusability, we are simply moving to slightly different technologies. New launch vehicles that are being created in our state, they will also have a certain reusability. This is the Angara rocket, this is the rocket.” Amur-LNG,» they will also have reusable return stages,» Nestechuk said in a documentary dedicated to the Buran reusable spacecraft.
Earlier, the general director of the Khrunichev Center (manufacturer of Angara rockets), Alexey Varochko, said that within the framework of the preliminary design, the developers confirmed the possibility of creating the Angara-A5V rocket (the most lifting version of the rocket with a hydrogen third stage) with reusable accelerators of the first and second stages.
«Angara» is a family of environmentally friendly rockets. Initially it was assumed that it would include carriers of light, medium and heavy classes, as well as increased payload capacity (Angara-A5V). Six rocket launches have already taken place, including three launches of the light Angara-A1.2 as part of tests from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region.
No plans for further Angara flights from Plesetsk were reported. The first launch from the Vostochny Cosmodrome will take place in 2024, it will be a heavy Angara-A5. It is planned that in the future it will be replaced by the Angara-A5M, capable of carrying several tons more.
The development of Angara-A5B continues, its launches are scheduled after 2028.
